photo challenge: i heart faces | over my head

19 Jul

This week’s photo challenge theme at i heart faces is “over my head” (by the way they are using this image as the as the post header, so I am beyond humbled). As soon as I heard the theme I thought about this image that I took at our city’s Independence Day Parade. The three soldiers you see marching are part of the Young Marine program at our local base. I was so struck by the center boy’s expression and the way he caught my camera’s gaze at the right second (or did I catch his?). He looks impossibly young, but is barely younger than many of the actual Marines I see all over town. There is more than a hat that hangs  over this boy soldier’s head. And it for those less-literal reasons, I wanted to use this as my entry.

photo challenge: i heart faces | all about babies

15 Jun

It’s been a while since I’ve managed to get a submission in for an heart faces weekly photo challenge. This week’s  theme is All About Babies. And, not wanting to dig too far into the archives of point-and-shoot Lyra photos, I decided to use one of my favorite images from my first (and hopefully not last) maternity session.

I love this image for its feeling of abundance and light, which is everything pregnancy should be.

Please visit i heart faces to see all of the other baby-themed images for this week.

photo challenge: i heart faces | smiles

26 Apr

The theme for this week’s i heart faces photo challenge is smile. Since I take mostly candids, smiling photos are actually a rarity for me. But I did manage to get this shot during a fun-filled visit to my brother’s house. Lyra has been slow to warm up to the idea that other kids = fun. But I think you can tell from her face that on this day, she was so full of joy she was glowing.

Please visit i heart faces to see all of the other smiling faces for this week.
