How was the labor?

Following two weeks of intense pre-labor, we entered active labor some time on Sunday, July 8th. Though the contractions came regularly throughout the day, they were manageable and didn’t really intensify in length or strength. Things would change dramatically after my water was artificially ruptured about 8 AM Monday morning. Though I had steadily progressed to four centimeters dilated over the course of three weeks, after my water was broken, things took off rapidly and Lyra was born just 5 hours later. The birth was 100% unmedicated and husband-coached and I was gently attended to by my mother and mother-in-law, who stepped in as unplanned, but natural doulas.

How do you pronounce her name?

leer – uh or lee – ruh

Does it mean anything?

From babynamesworld: “This name comes from the Greek ‘lyra’, meaning ‘lyre’ (a small harp used by the ancient Greeks). Lyra is the name of a small constellation which, according to Greek mythology, was shaped after the lyre of the legendary poet Orpheus. Its main star, Vega, is the fifth brightest in the sky.”

Are you ever going to post pictures?
